Lords of Metal - The enemy within (01/07)
Does anybody of you remember the band Grand Illusion? This Swedish outfit delivered in 2004 an excellent melodic rock album with 'Ordinary Just Won't Do', which I still listen to on a very regular basis. What has this got to do with Code you might say. Well, two ex-members of Grand Illusion, being Ola af Trampe (guitar) and Anders Rydholm (bass, keyboards and guitar), form the basis of this new band. They have found the excellent American vocalist Sherwood Ball to take care of the vocal duties and have recruited the well-known Greg Bissonette to take care of the drum parts.
Together Rydholm and Ball have written a large amount of new songs and the eleven best ones in their opinion were selected to appear on this debut album 'The Enemy Within'. And it has to be said that the result of this is just great! All songs are very good, especially by the very nice melodies and the tasteful and sometimes very original guitar solos of Ola af Trampe. Also the vocal contribution of Sherwood Ball is very much appreciated, because his quite unique vocal sound add just that little bit of extra flavour to make this band this good. If I should pick some songs with are above the already very high average level, 'The Enemy Within', 'Sworn To Silence', 'Flying High' and 'Sign Up For Love' are the first ones that come to mind. I hope that Code will hang around for much longer, because this first acquaintance with them was a very positive one.
